About Cantique |
|
Cantique, formed by Richard Potter and Bob Warren in 1997, is a group of friends drawn by a common love of music and singing, with a choral repertoire varied from light to serious, from comic to tragic, from the very ancient to very modern. A chamber choir which began with 16 singers and now numbering around 27, members are very experienced musicians and most also sing with other choral societies and with Church choirs. Our members have a variety of day jobs and include scientists, music graduates, teachers (including two who teach music) and even a judge. We rehearse in the Alton area and generally (but not exclusively) perform around the Hampshire/Surrey border. |

The Tudor composer William Byrd wrote: "Since singing is so good a thing, I wish all men would learn to sing". This is Cantique’s byword; in music, enjoyment is the cardinal virtue and boredom the cardinal vice. |
